The music that I enjoy the most vibrates with emotion and energy. Photography for me is like that too, and so I seek to capture subjects for which I feel strongly about, that make me feel full of life. Sometimes it's the beautiful light that motivates, other times it's the decisive moment, or the right subject, or the spirit of the place. Most often it is some combination of the these.
In terms of location, I concentrate my efforts on photographing the unique flavor of New England and Maritime Canada. This area offers an endless source of subjects. Many people are familiar with the working fishing villages of Maritime Canada, the rugged coastlines of Maine, the mountains and streams of New Hampshire, the white churches and lush green valleys of Vermont, the diverse environments of Massachusetts, the seaports of Connecticut, the coastal beaches of Rhode Island, but there is much, much more. This area is colored with dynamic seasonal changes and, of course, there is no shortage of interesting people to find along the way. All of which I relish capturing through the photographic process.
When the opportunities arise, I travel the world. Mostly these trips take me to Europe, Canada, and a variety of islands. Frequently, but not often enough, I make photographic trips to US and Canadian National Parks.
Recently, I have spent time on a side project involving industry and transportation.
My subject matter of choice, and to some degree my style, are greatly influenced by my childhood years spent within walking distance of Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and Walden Pond, and frequent family camping trips in New England.
The photographers that have most influenced me are Ernst Haas, Eliot Porter, Robert Glenn Ketchum, Galen Rowell, and Joseph Sudek.
